As with so many situations related to kids in emergency foster care the details are troubling and the background story is long and complex. The story of the “kids down the street” is indeed long and complex and the details are not good. The quick summary is that the adoptive mom who raised these kids is now unable to fulfill her duties for a variety of reasons. There are two teenage girls, Kyla (16) and Kiaira (14) who have been placed in emergency foster care with a non-blood related caregiver through the Summit County CSB kinship caregiver program. Their older sister Karleigh (19) is assisting with their needs and supervising them unofficially as she does not have the means to be approved as the official caregiver or emergency foster parent. Karleigh graduated high school and has a license and a car to assist with the girls’ transportation for grocery shopping and school. The girls are temporarily living together at an undisclosed location in Portage County. CSB has a long-term plan to work with the girls’ biological father to be the permanent placement location but he is still on parole and is working through the case plan. Their brother Christopher (17) is already living with their dad and it is going well. Short term the girls have been placed with an emergency caregiver who agreed to take on a temporary caregiver role. The girls have a full kitchen at the undisclosed Portage County location and they are able to prepare their own meals. The reason for this post is because at this time there is a need for groceries to stock their kitchen. Food vouchers and CSB funds may be available to the caregiver sometime in January but at this time there is a great need. Should this post find you in a place where you would feel moved to contribute to the grocery and hygiene supply fund for kids in need here are the details:
Karleigh Morgan is registered on Zelle using her email – karleigh.morgan123@gmail.com Contributions made through Zelle would go directly to Karleigh Morgan and would be used for the kids’ expenses like food and hygiene supplies. Some funds may be used for gas to assist her in getting the girls where they need to be. She is also able to deposit checks made payable to Karleigh Morgan. The temporary caregiver supervises this account and assists with budgeting and spending.
The stores most accessible to their location for groceries and supplies is Meijer and/or Giant Eagle. Gift cards to either of these stores would be extremely helpful and much appreciated. Karleigh and the girls would be willing to pick up gift cards or donations of any kind. The girls are working at the Mosher Media offices in downtown Akron during the Christmas Break to earn money for cell-phone bills and entertainment expenses. Grocery store gift cards or donations could be mailed to or dropped off at: Mosher Media, Inc. 520 South Main Street Suite 2511 Akron, Ohio 44311. Please call 330-376-3500 for additional information or directions if needed. Thank you! -Dan

- Volunteer chefs and/or cooking instructors are welcome for cooking and baking at the studio kitchen in downtown Akron
- Used clothing donations would gladly be accepted. They left their adoptive mother’s home in a hurry and left many of their personal items behind. Because of the private or sensitive nature of the situation this page is not being posted to social media. Thank you again for reading this. Right now in Summit County there are 900 kids in emergency foster care and a critical shortage of placement locations or caregivers. Every bit helps.
